Yes, I made that discussion. Here is a link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:VisualEditor
A WYSIWYG/Visual Editor was requested a long time ago at http://feedback.wikidot.com/wish:5 and rejected. I've never seen any indication that the developers consider this necessary or wish to implement it. I think it would be a huge amount of work for a limited number of users.

I think it's more about keeping Wikidot up-to-date really. I use Wordpress a quite often and their interface is just easier to use. That translates into more activity on my part.
It could just as easily be argued that vi is all anyone needs for text editing ;)
I'm sure crafting an interface like the Wordpress editor would indeed be significant work, but when you look at how Wikidot is doing in Alexa's rankings (dropped over 300 places in the last three months) I feel that something needs to be done
1. I see the english version working for many wiki-markup codes, but not for all; the limitations are heavy…
2. I am not sure what you mean with "Visual editor" in this case - it is doing the same as wikidot here with the edit window and the "edit buttons above" - they are the same ( or more?) as in wikipedia!

I gave you a link, do you have an account? It is a beta feature while they work on it, you need an account to access it, then you select "Edit", not "Edit Source"
Thanks for the push!
I have changed my account https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer:Helmuti_pdorf (english: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Helmuti_pdorf ) to use the visual editor (beta) additional to the source edit and
I have to say:
(one of my first articles is https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Moore, written long tome ago and in german…)
Yes, with the switch in my account there is a "word - like" editor with lot of buttons to control the inserted text, tables a..s.o.
Not sure how long the page-source can be, some of the articles are really long…
And of course, "templates" and "talk" pages are ( like dataform-templates here in wikidot, not good to edit in a word-editor.
Thanks for the information !
This was going on in the last 3 years without any notice for me!
( so intensiv is the work here on Wikidot-platform. :) )

I started using Wikispaces specifically because it has a visual editor. I quickly discovered that having an mediocre editor is worse than none at all, even for naive users, and found Wikidot and moved here. In my experience, a visual editor which is not rock solid and fast, and which does not support all common formatting (especially tables and images) is simply not useful.
I'd love to see one, but only if it's a serious, solid job.
