There often times that administrators are asleep, on vacation or sick and thus are not monitoring their wikis. This is when wikis are open to damage from spammers or members with malicious intent.
It might be a useful procedure to limit the number of posts per hour or day if you are not an administrator or on an approved "whitelist". For example, you could set a limit of 10 pages per hour or 20 per day. Most honest & casual wiki users would not exceed a set number of pages. Whereas, a spammer will try to change as many pages as possible as quickly as he can.
In order to get around limiting "power" wiki users, you could create a whitelist. If a member is on this list, they are seen as safe enough to edit/create without any limitations.
