Moreover, this would be an automatic process where the membership expires if there is no activity by the member (i.e. after the initial 30 days).
You could also combine a "warning" email prior to the end of the temporary period to encourage activity (and thus permanent membership).

This is not an unreasonable wish but it would possibly be a lot of work to implement for something that would be very easy to circumvent. A user would only need to add a comma, full stop, letter or some other very minor change to overcome the temporary status and get permanent membership. What you are wanting them to do is make a meaningful contribution to the wiki, and I don't think that can be done with this particular wish.
If they created a new page then added content and the MA decided whether to promote them to permanent membership then maybe that would be a way of doing it. But I don't see the developers doing a lot of work on this, particularly as they have always flatly refused our wishes for different membership groups in the past (although they have never explained this position as far as I am aware).
