I would love to see a link specific nofollow option. Adding nofollow to some internal links helps to control and balance PR which in turns helps with search engine ranking.
For example, a current link to a contact page might look like:
[/contact Contact]
A proposed nofollow option would look like:
[/contact Contact type="nofollow"] or
[*http://whanethewhip.wikidot.com/contact Contact Me type="nofollow"]
If the addition of more text in what would normally be seen as anchor text conflicts with the existing anchor text, then it might be easier to add the option at the beginning of the URL much like we add a * to indicate a new page. In this case maybe something like a # sign:
[#http://whanethewhip.wikidot.com/contact Contact Me]
By default all links should be follow (as they are now) and the type tag would only be used when one wanted to cut off PR to an internal or external link.
By controlling PR output, PR can be retained on more important pages and restricted on pages that don't need to get ranked such as a contact page, a staff page, links to nav pages or the admin page, etc…
We really, really need this…
Just looked this up. Apparently the HTML equivalent is this:
~ Shane (Wikidot Community Admin - Volunteer)
Wikidot: Wikidot Editor, Official Docs
Other: YouTube (gaming, primarily Minecraft)
This needs to work with wikidot syntax. Using an html block is limited and quite clunky.
I need to be able to do this and have it pick up the nofollow tag.
We should have better control over links and there is no reason not to be able to use a nofollow attribute on a single link. Can we have this work in wikidot syntax or have a way of doing it on a per link basis? Having this capability only for the whole page or for the whole site would not be something most people would wish to use today. From an SEO standpoint you want to have only certain links on a page be nofollow links. An example of why is that it is widely recommended to have affiliate links be nofollow links, so as not to pass on "link juice" to Amazon pages, for example (Google recommends this, btw).
