Desperately needed! Every 6 months or so I get to spend the better part of a day deleting old jobs from my private employee staff site to keep the number of pages under control.

I Love this idea, especially for the project I've been working on, the only thing is, Don't want it to delete templates for said category.
It is possible to move pages using the Wikidot API. So the pages you wanted to delete could be moved to trash: and then deleted from there.
It would be nice to have a more fine-grained control of the deletion, but if it means the difference between this wish getting accepted and being rejected then it is not vital.
Agreed.
The simplest way for this to be implemented would be a delete option in the site manager that only deletes the 'deleted' category. In combination with the API, this would be extremely useful.
Any improvements upon that are welcome, as long as they don't make this wish get put into the "too hard" or "not possible" basket.
The other alternative, of course, is to add page deletion to the API. Even if the method only deleted a single page, you could iterate through a list and delete them one-by-one a lot faster than having to do it manually, as we do now. I'd add it to STE immediately and release a 3.51 update with that feature, because people would use it.

I agree (sort of). We need to be able to decide which type of pages to remove (or preserve). If this is implemented, it would make it most flexible if the same syntax for the pagetype selector in the ListPages module is used for selecting which pages to remove from a category ("*" = all pages, "normal" = non-hidden pages and "hidden" = pages named with underscore prefixes.
Maybe it could be added to our collection of buttons so we could place it on an administrative page instead of going into Site Manager to perform this function:
Using an example from Karii_vg's project:

It's time to give this another bump.
I hate to say this because I really am a huge Wikidot fan, but the lack of communication on all of these wishes from the dev team is really frustrating.
There's a lot of wishes that have been accepted and have gotten no action as well as tons of wishes like this one that have had no comment from the devs.
Part of the reason this is bugging me so much today is that I inadvertently created a few hundred pages via the API on one of my sites that I'm using as a master for cloning to other sites. Since I can't undo what I did via the API, I now have to manually delete those pages so I can get my site under the page limit for cloning again.
Granted, this was a self-inflicted wound, but I shouldn't be penalized so heavily for making it.
Can we please get a "trash" category so we have a way to quickly and permanently delete pages?
Community Admin
The existing 'deleted' category is usually used for this purpose, when you go to delete a page manually and are offered to rename it instead.
A way to purge all pages in the deleted category would be extremely helpful.

Of course I know we already have a deleted category. My point is that I don't care what it's called as long as we can have a designated category to act as a trash can, recycle bin or sh%thole. It should be accessible and configurable through site manager. If it could be implemented with some of the ideas discussed with wish:486, it would be even better.
I'm actually in a better mood today after getting my mess from yesterday cleaned up, but the silence from the dev team when it comes to wishes is deafening.

We all have days like that as some of my posts show!
I fully agree that the apparent lack of action and the definite lack of communication on wishes is very frustrating. It's something I first complained about when pieterh was around yet the situation has got much worse since then.

I have th same problem with a log (file) category on one of my private business sites:
to be logged on - online for all others - everyone of the colleguas has to put an "X" in the new pagebutton field and click on autcreate - a new "autonumbered" entry is build in the "online:" category - showing it for all others on the start page who is online ( and of course - set it back to offline at the en in the "offline" category)..
With this method we create permanent lots of new (short) pages - which I want to delete on some day in the future !
And ONLY such a "mass delete" ( moving it into a "trash" - category ) can help.
But of cpuorse than a "real delete" of such a "trash" category in the site manager by MA is neccessary too!
otherwise the mass - move would do nothing better than shifting it into another category…
