I wish gurus and other high karma users could have extra benefits on my site without making them moderators or admin. I trust people who use Wikidot extensively and would like to grant them automatic permissions based on their status.
For example: Page creators can delete their own pages on my site, but I also want to allow experienced wikidot members to have the same ability without me making them moderators or admin.
This wish could also help increase membership as a way to gain more permissions. An announcement proclaiming their upgraded status (and permissions) would further help build loyalty and contributions. Videos games are popular on Wikidot, this idea works the same as gaining experience levels and new powers.
If users abused their powers, bans and other complaints could lower their reputation, and thus, their permissions. Since Karma works on reputation, high karma uses would refrain from doing bad things that would hurt their freedom.
This wish could help members to contribute more edits to all wikidot websites.
One way to accomplish this would be to add the karma levels to permissions. We can currently set permissions for "registered at Wikidot". If we could have extra columns for each of the 6 levels of karma (0-5) like we do for the abuse settings, then we could set some really fine grained permissions like you're suggesting without requiring someone to join a site to gain these extra privileges.
One problem with this might be how karma is calculated. High karma doesn't necessarily mean you're an expert or that you "play nice" all the time. Your suggestions for taking karma away for bad behavior would help this situation. That, combined with the ability we have now to block specific users makes this manageable, I think.
