I tend to agree with this as someone who is very bad at commenting their changes. And I also agree that making it an admin option is a good idea. +1

Thank you very much for +1 :]

good idea, since I aways forget to do this… maybe it would also be nice to be able to put the comment in after saving in case you forgot to do it but still want to do it as a reminder for later. I think this last option is better because… the obligation to comment your changes is sometimes stupid… think off typos for example. Imagen:"I put a period at the end of sentence no 32".

I got few solutions for that:

I like that it's an admin option, and I think you should be able to decline it if you are an admin, since you'd probably do it anyway if you were fixing something and wanted to say what.
Yes but it would always be an extra click onthe button "no comment for me, just save the damn page" :-)
I am already a bit frustrated when I want to delete some pages or want to upload files by all the clicking and confirming my actions.

The "History" button allows for checking (most) changes made. It represents a more cumbersome process, yet it is already an option to use while (or instead of) this wish is implemented.
Probably you have not meet with problem of user who can make 40 changes, and not comment any of them :)
As a admin and moderator I must say, that I tried to check for all of them. What he has done could be written in 3 page saves.
He also not only add his own text, but also changed existing exercise without any single notice. Did you know that diffing that changes took me 1 hour? :>
I also needed to check his own exercise, and calculate it, and then put it in right place. That wasted time I could spend in more creative way than that :]
And because of that experience, I wrote my wish here :]
I think that it could help a lot :]

With the benefit of hindsight, maybe. But don't forget that people make changes, then think a bit more, then make more changes, and change things they have already changed. I do it all the time.
Rob Elliott - Strathpeffer, Scotland - Wikidot first line support & community admin team.
That could be a really hard task :]
Please tell me then, how to make it easier, and will that wish make it easier to moderate? :]
Maybe some other changes are needed too ? If so then what could be changed? :]

Definitely rated up. Every change should be commented, regardless of how minor the change may actually be. Several versioning systems force the use of comments, and Wikidot doing the same would be a huge step forward.
From time to time I forget to add comments myself, so this would remind me on those occasions where I forget.
I agree that it should be disabled by default, and configurable on a site-wide basis from the site manager.

Just something that would force them to not leave the comment field blank would be an improvement - maybe a check-mark they are forced to turn off so there aren't tons of comments that consist of a single period…
I agree this should be an option. It's really necessary on some sites.
Maybe you make it an option, as some site admins may not care one way or another, and there may be fringe cases where it's not necessary. That said, it should be set to "on" by default.
