The include is in html serounded by <p> … using some smart tricks could remove the upper and bottom space from this container. Some info about this at [css.wikidot.com/paddingzero css.wikidot.com/paddingzero] BUT… the item above the include and under it will also be contained by a <p>

Steven, nice one! I'm adding this to the rainbow & minimalist themes and we should make it a CSS CSI when those work. I made a couple of changes to your example code to make it clearer.

Not sure if you know this: there's a Community How-To Inline Include showing a work-around for inline includes without the need of extra CSS.

And by doing what Erich just said, you will discover that there is no surprise HTML formating… it is written in HTML as though nothing were being included.

Wanted to see the HTML and was not sure that you used it in your how-to-page. I had a look and indeed it looks perfect. But how in the hell should people find a solution like that without knowing secret hidden stuff from behind the scenes? But it works great!

Well this is a cheap way of completing wishes! My work around is a work around, not a solution. I am also still waiting on a solution to this problem!
