The title is probably enough of a description, but to elaborate: We need something as powerful as the ListPages module that works for the existing, built-in Wikidot forum.
For the most part, this would benefit long-time users of Wikidot that have been using these forums for a while and now have no possibility to move to a page-based forum because they would lose all of their content.
It would also benefit new users that decide to go with the easier option, and realise later that they are severely restricted by modules like these:
- RecentPosts (no attributes can be changed)
- MiniRecentThreads (only limit can be changed)
- MiniActiveThreads (only limit can be changed)
- MiniRecentPosts (only limit can be changed)
Suggestion: A new "ListPosts" module, to remain consistent with other modules such as "ListPages" and "ListUsers".
It's up to Wikidot what attributes we have on this new module… but I'm sure that everyone will agree, what we have available to us at the moment to list information about the existing forum is very, very simplistic.
Agreed! I had a very similar Wish that was rejected, though I'm not sure why since no explanation was given.
I get the distinct feeling that Wikidot want to forget the original forum and only support pages. The problem with that is that there are significant disadvantages to page-based fora that range from difficult, through requiring outside assistance, to impossible. (An on-page reply editor, and nested threads for example.)
The problem is that either way, any solution is going to require significant development time.
There are other issues that affect both implementations — for example marking threads as read and Google searching on multiple-page threads — that go right to the basic design of the Wikidot product. While the difficulties would be containable if fixes were implemented for the original forum modules, they are near impossible for page-based fora.
I want to add to this the possiblity to list all the threads started by the same user. BTW, Wikidot could work a little bit on their forum. Unlike the wikis, forum has stayed the same as it was at the beginning of Wikidot times.
