Edit sections never works on any of my pages. Simple pages to complex pages, I never have isolated sections. The work-around creates a separate page for each paragraph of content and a link that goes to the edit section, but this has a number of issues.
1. This is extremely time consuming to create for many large pages.
2. The wikidot search function picks up these separate page / paragraphs, whereas, I'd rather they disappeared, because it crowds out the "real" page in search results.
3. Users don't know how to create these sections, so for very long entries, I have to create them myself.
4. Google shows a duplicate title error, because the same page has a link to its edit function plus the regular page.
Can we just make this easier to use? Also, can we have a button to switch on edit sections automatically?
I read in a Wikidot blog post that almost no one uses edit section. I would prefer to use edit sections in almost every case. It just doesn't work as needed.
I hope you take up this wish,
Dave
If you use the stand alone page buttons [[button edit-sections]] in the nav side you can eassy switch to "edit sections" version…
if this does not work than it is a bug. ( i think)

I'd rather have a master toggle that allows me to skip that extra step. When users see an edit button, they tend to press it much more often, which is what we are all trying to do. As a work-around, which I think you suggested, I put standalone edit buttons next to major paragraphs, but this has limited functionality, as described above.
The error it gives is there are no isolated sections. This error is so chronic, that I can also never use edit sections. I know it's a design issue, but I can't design anything that meets the requirements for isolated sections.

I would like the following changes to edit-sections:
1. Add a link to the top of the page as well if there is no heading there, which would edit from top of page to the first heading.
2. Some way to enable it by default on my wikis. Many of my sites are built as actual websites, but whenever I try to build an open wiki using Wikidot (assumedly meant to be the service's primary feature!) … I always seem to want to have edit-sections enabled by default, and have to instead settle with putting the button in as many places as possible.

By the way… I wrote a very opinionated blog post claiming that this is a crucial missing piece of functionality for Wikidot. Perhaps I exaggerated slightly, but the fact remains that I would really like to see this implemented for the sake of 5% of my sites where I'll actually use it.

@WikiWealth: Edit sections is based upon adding headings into the page. Keeping this in mind… do you think revising the request to something similar like this would still meet your needs?
I think the rest of your request can be summarised as the following:
… and that can be done by using the "ROBOTS" meta tag.

The best solution would be a master switch to add edit buttons next to each paragraph like on other wiki sites. Short of that, simply improving the existing edit sections feature is good enough.
The Search issue is with Wikidot's search engine. It could be solved by making the search engine editable like in the request you made a while ago.
The duplicate name issue is with google's search results and can be solved by hiding the page, but that problem would exists if the edit sections worked better.

I use edit sections, and a lot. I think that there should ba a command in Site Manager so the Administrator can decide if the edit section buttons should be visible or not. I personally like Wikidot solution - invisible edit sections buttons, but as there are also pepole who prefer them visible, I think the user should have a choice, so he can decide if he wants his site to have visible or invisible edit section buttons.
