what:
- syntax highlighting for Wikidot
(This has been requested a few times already, I am just adding it as a wish in this new feedback.wikidot.com site .)
why:
- would speed up the creation of wikidot pages
- would dramatically help in the creation of tables (see the discussion under WYSIWYG for Tables Only)
- would make code streamlining easier
- would make bug discovery easier
importance:
* should be available by default | *i need this as soon as possible | *this will be useful for everyone | *this would benefit the overall progress of Wikidot |
workarounds:
http://www.soronlin.org.uk/jedit <jEdit - Soronlin>
http://www.wdeditor.com <Home - STE> (no syntax highlighting yet)
http://mytreedb.com/download/treedb/SyntaxMaker.zip <TreeDBNotes SyntaxMaker> for http://www.mytreedb.com/ <TreeDBNotes Free, SoftArtStudio>
Good idea, you'v got my vote.

Mine too.
In the meantime, if you are interested in off-line editing, you may find this interesting: http://www.soronlin.org.uk/jedit

Wow, that is terrific! So, I guess, Wikidot can take advantage of the work done by you so far and implement syntax highlighting sooner.

No, unfortunately not. That highlighter is a plug-in for an off-line editor and it is just a load of regular expressions written in XML — it wouldn't help Wikidot in the slightest.
rurwin does not match any existing user name what do you think of this tool: http://mytreedb.com/download/treedb/SyntaxMaker.zip ?
(I discovered the tool in this thread: http://forum.mytreedb.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=4809 )
As far as I've played with it, it can help you build syntax colouring rules and then apply them in the TreeDBNotes editor (which is one of the few really good tree-structured text editors).
Does JEdit support tree structure view? I installed it but was not able to find such. It is very convenient as I can recreate the structure of my Wikidot site and and I can contain all page edits in one file.

Hm, just put your wikidot.xml file in the TreeDBNotes syntax containing folder but it an error appears "No font style…"
(Sorry for a possibly very dumb question but I am of no programming background whatsoever (unless Wikidot counts as such)).

Btw I notice you they are using Twiki and not Wikidot for the jEdit community, not Wikidot alas…

@maki, You mean like this?

You want the BufferList plugin, then dock it.
I'm not a jEdit developer, just a happy user. So I don't get to decide which Wiki they use.
Thank you rurwin! Well, what I had in mind was different pages stored in the same file. As far as I understand the plug-in conveniently shows the placement of files as stored in various windows folders.
Sorry for the mistake about kEdit authorship, I thought you were the creator! :)

The problem with that is that it would have to use a private format for the file. I'm surprised nobody has written a zip filesystem plugin for jEdit, but the ProjectViewer and Sessions plugins get you similar functionality, albeit using individual files.
