Since I'm in the early stages of doing this, here's something that might be worthwhile: http://private-workgroup-template.wikidot.com/
Looks good, good start. Interesting search box ;-)
If you're trying to copy the style of the Iron Giant templates, there's usually a hyphen just before the word 'template' in the URL, e.g. blank-template, default-template, opensource-template.
Also, somewhere on the Iron Giant site is a recommendation for what the topbar should contain, so that all of the templates follow the same basic structure.

workgroup-template is already taken (by pieterh). I've renamed it to private-workgroup-template
All I did was to clone my site and remove all identifying stuff and make it generic. The top nav bar items are carefully chosen to hide the wiki-nature, which in the my application is necessary.
You'd be welcome to extend the workgroup-template. I don't use the forum modules any longer because they're inflexible. Instead, making forums using wiki pages, e.g. opensource-template.wikidot.com. You might enjoy how these work.

They are probably two different animals. Your template will suit wiki-aware groups, whereas mine is simpler to administrate and use.
If my suggestion to use Wikidot for my company's workgroup forum is successful, I'll be passing the MA over to someone who has never used a wiki before and who probably doesn't have the time or inclination to learn. So I want to make it look as much like a packaged product as possible, but I don't have a mandate for anything other than a forum, so I can hide the wiki stuff away initially.
I imagine that is something other people may find attractive.
Another thing you'll want to look at is the Data Forms feature. It was designed to hide away the wiki syntax and make wikidot easier to use (easier to use, but not easy to set up Data Forms)

I've taken this down as I am filling up my 5 site limit. If anyone is interested I could recreate it or something.
Feel free to make me the MA if you want - I have plenty of free slots.
Edit: If you have deleted it, there is still no need to re-create it from scratch. You are able to reverse the deletion :)
