I disagree, as it would ruin the integrity of the page history.
Probably the best alternative would be to copy the source code, then delete and re-create the page with the same source code. Essentially you are losing all of the history then, so in a way it's achieving the same result.

I partially agree with leiger that the integrity of the page is important. But, since we can completely delete a page as a work-around, why not let us selectively remove the edits we find "silly" or embarrassing or just useless in terms of being preserved for prosperity. Plus, we could then remove all trace of crap left behind by spammers so it can't be found in the page's history.
There are many times when I've wanted to carve out an edit or two in the middle of my history simply because I corrected some really silly typo. I can't tell you how many times I've fixed a typo and just as I'm hitting "save" I spot another one I have to fix and end up with a bunch of junk in my history that is worthless.
I frequently use the "delete completely" trick when I want to totally reset a page's history, but having the ability to selectively remove edits makes sense to me, especially if there is some history of the page I want to keep.
