I just realised that I can achieve the same thing using the page.save method — it overwrites any existing page so I could just create a sandbox page at "preview" and then show it to the user… no need for any specialised page to do the same thing! :)
… If only I could get the API working with Java!
Will close this…

We will want to introduce preview method, but return HTML instead of URL. No need to save stuff.
About Java XML-RPC. There's library from Apache guys: http://ws.apache.org/xmlrpc/. The only "vendor specific" extension you need is a non-standard <nil> value to represent null values. Enable it with setting property enabledForExtensions (http://ws.apache.org/xmlrpc/types.html) — not sure how, but you'll find out. XML-RPC types used by Wikidot are always only struct, string, int and array, so no need to create fancy classes like for SOAP services.

Okay, have marked this as 'accepted' instead then and changed the wish so that it suggests the same thing you said in your comment.
I've already got the XML-RPC libraries from Apache. I'll have to look into that extra extension for null values though. Thanks for the suggestions.
