Most of the users do not even know what the MIME type actually is. Furthermore, our system checks the MIME types almost flawlessly. We don't see the need to implement such feature. Rejecting.
My request for this feature, which I believe would be quite simple to implement, is motivated by problems with incorrect mime type recognition for source code in not-so-common programming languages (the R language in the case of my site), which makes viewing such file attachments inconvenient. Explaining just to make it clear it was motivated by real, not imaginary problems.
..what leads you to believe this?
If you want the devs to look at this again you will need to produce evidence of where the MIME-type recognition has been done incorrectly.

I am not really trying to make you change your opinion. When submitting this wish I hoped it might get some support from other users, since I would never expect anybody to fix an issue that matters for just one novice wikidot user. My site datamine-R, still at an early development stage and private, has a couple of pages with several tiny R source files attached, with their mime types recognized as: ASCII text, ASCII English text, ASCII C++ program text, and … Macintosh Library (data). See, e.g., http://datamine-r.com/articles:decision-trees (assuming the development team can inspect private site contents). I wouldn't say this is any major problem, just an annoying inconvenience that I naively thought shouldn't be too difficult to fix.
I suspect that allowing users to edit the MIME type would be pretty difficult to implement (or at the very least, could be a security concern if people are able to disguise executable files as text files - for example)
The best way to go about fixing this would be to request that they improve their auto-detection methods to correctly recognise these files if possible.
As Wikidot does tend to listen to bug reports even if it's "just one novice wikidot user" that wants it fixed (and that's why they're so awesome), I'm hoping they'll be able to look into this soon and get it fixed for you.
This should probably have been reported as a "bug" with the subject being something like "MIME type for R programming language source files isn't detected correctly".
Cheers,
