I'd really like [[image :first]] to pick up the preview images for uploaded PDF files.
I see it's possible to show PDF images:

And there's been some community noodling about displaying PDFs in [[gallery]]:
…and it works to show these images individually and collectively as long as you know the filename. But why can't we show these images (individually and in a gallery) without referring to them specifically?
Our users often have PDFs to share. It would be great if the _template could display a scaled image of the PDF automatically, without advance knowledge of the filename.
Nice, but what about image :first without explicit size? Browsers can't display pdfs as <img> tags (and they shouldn't). I would rather allow them in gallery, like [[gallery pdf="true"]].

I think the default size/source for pdf images should be "medium", from the preview located in local—resized-images.
