I've rated it up. Seems an obvious missing feature. So does quoting when replying to a forum comment.

Part of the problem with the weneeds is that new ones aren't given top billing and it's getting to be quite a chore to scroll through them, trying to remember which ones I've voted for already.
I voted this up. Great idea!

I like the way it's organized now, so the top votes are at the top of the list, all that's needed is the same solution we implemented at the Community site, an additional recent activity layout so you can see the most recent additions and not have to play Where's Waldo to figure out what's new.
Or just watch the category/site ;-)

this is a nice idea it would be easier for the person to know what 6you are sending them
i rated it up
auto-quoting is more useful on flat forums, when replays are auto-indented it isn't so important, how often you use quoting ?? indeed… my mistake

TeRq, please note that this is asking for auto-quoting in Private Messages, not in forum threads such as this.

To answer your question… I use quoting every single time I reply to a private message. When someone replies to one of my messages and does not quote - and it takes me a couple of days to get around to reading it - I frequently forget what I wrote to them in the first place and need to check my "sent" box to figure out what they are talking about!

I would like this feature because I typically quote at least part of the original PM when replying. That said, in some ways it is easier for me to selectively quote parts of the original with the current system. The original PM is sitting on the same page above the reply box, so I just scroll up, copy, insert a "> " on a blank line and paste. Pretty easy.
If autoquoting was enabled, I'd probably spend as much time carving out the parts of the original that I don't want to quote in my reply.

My issue is with users that don't quote, either because they don't know that the feature exists or because they expect me to know what they are trying to say in their messages.
With my main website here, 99.9% of the members have never seen or used any other wikidot site. They joined wikidot through my website. As a result of this, they're not used to using the workarounds you are using Ed. If it was the first time you have ever replied to a Private Message, would you think about quoting the reply? Probably not.
