its a great idea and it should be added
We do not see the point in implementing such feature, which may double the existing wiki syntax and may confuse users. Rejecting.
This is a huge setback to Wikidot's ability to cope with the migration of sites from other services, e.g. Wikimedia, which use different syntax.
I'd like to discuss this in detail… but I'll post on the community admin forum instead of here as it doesn't necessarily relate directly to this wish.
