This would be particularly useful for one of my websites, that has a heavy focus on providing files that others download. Themes/skins, in fact.
Having a download counter and (even better) being able to order in ListPages by that counter, would be very useful.

yes it would be useful. i think i requested it some time ago on the wishlist but it never caught on 0.O
That's probably because there was no easy way to implement it.
But now that we have a ListFiles design doc… that's the perfect place to use this:
I've added this to the docs, so hopefully when pieter and the development team get to that design, it'll be implemented.
It's essentially the same as %%views%% for pages — which hasn't been implemented yet :(

Now that we have Data Forms, I think the best way to implement this would be to be able to count the number of downloads from a particular form field, given it's name.
Files attached to a page are a bit harder to reference / identify.
