A bit of clarification: This originally referred to pages that began with an underscore.
Since this wish was created, 'private categories' have been implemented. This wish has nothing to do with that feature.

So if I understand this correct: you wish to have a selector for listpages to make hidden pages {pages starting their name with underscore} countable. Since this would be a solution… the vatiable %%total%% used in listpages can count pages who comply to the selector.
Now does this selector exist within the listpages module?

So this would do the trick I suppose

total hiddenpages in wish category is: %%total%%
