Alright I got the problem solved myself with some other people.

by Doctor Robin FrostDoctor Robin Frost, 19 Jul 2018 23:09

I got it to work in Firefox, but it looked like it failed. After allowing Flash to run, I uploaded 3 files and it hung at 0% on the first file.

I then tried 3 different files (all *.jpg) this time and all three looped through and showed 100% complete, but appeared to hang with "Uploading…" and showing the Cancel button.

When I refreshed my page, all 6 files were attached to the page. There's definitely something amiss. I primarily use Chrome these days and I can't even get the Flash uploader to display or prompt me to allow it to run. Same issue when I try MS Edge (which I rarely use).

Let's hope someone sees this and actually does something to fix it!

Flash is up to date (30.0.134).
Browser is Firefox 61.0.1.
No error appearing in the debugger.
Old file uploader worked.

Make a check-page as we ( the community ) did on our community site, because of the watching activity was switched off some times ago:, with links to your wiki page "system.:recent-changes" and/or "forum:recent-posts"
http://community.wikidot.com/system:check-for-spam-links

That error is pretty generic. Do you know how to use the browser debugger to inspect what might be more specific error messages?

I'd try the following:

  • Make sure Flash is updated.
  • Try a different browser and/or PC.
  • Try the old file uploader (can only do one file at a time, but it's better than nothing).

Have a look pn the page http://community.wikidot.com/system:check-for-spam-links - which is normally only reachable over the top menu for admins only

I found a workaround, although it froze the site a few times. Reverted to old version.

You need to notify the site admin (Lord Giger). This feedback site is for reporting problems with the Wikidot platform, not issues like this with specific sites hosted by Wikidot.

Wikidot really needs to fix the "Report a Bug" link they put on the bottom of every site so it's not so confusing, but it's a complaint that's been around for years and likely will never be addressed.

You can PM Lord Giger here. He's been active recently, so chances are good you'll get some kind of response.

Good luck.

Literally almost a year after the last post on this thread, I have discovered that using http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com instead resolves the issue.

They said they would do something but nothing has happened for weeks and weeks. I think wikidot is out to lunch and to be frank, I'm done with this. I've already migrated my biggest site so that I can do the things I need to so without begging and pleading for support (for every little thing). Meanwhile, there is a workaround. You can use Addthis to create a link promotion banner, and you can configure that so that it works something like a cookie consent banner. Unfortunately, you are stuck with a plain dark or white color scheme unless you pay for pro.

I agree it is an important and urgent matter. If Wikidot would allow us either to put some code in the header of a wiki, just before the </head> tag,
or decide the code (for instance from insites) but allows us to fill parameters:

"popup": {
"background": "#eb6c44",
"text": "#ffffff"
},
"button": {
"background": "#f5d948"
}
},
"content": {
"message": "This wiki uses cookies to ensure you get the best experience on your visit. ",
"href": "http://www.actor-atlas.info/privacy-policy"
}

that would be of great help.

On our privacy policy page we can then further comply with requirements, for instance those for publishers using Google products (from https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/9035987?hl=en&ref_topic=7670012 ):

Our EU User Consent Policy also requires publishers to give users information about how their data will be used. To explain how Google's products use data, we encourage publishers to link to this user-facing page. Doing so will meet this requirement of our policy.

That is working on Community site - use the search box right top for anything and it will work as expected.

Would be good to give us here some examples what you were searching and where!

A really "rename" does not "delete" the page—- have a look on your system:list-all-categories ( if you do not have such page than create a page called "system:list-all-categories" ( like our http://community.wikidot.com/system:list-all-categories ) and you can see all pages which exist on your wiki ( and their real names..

Also I would never really remove/delete a page - always rename it to the "deleted:" category where you can fond than all old pages.
Rename to opld start page is than easy, you only need to find it. !

You can also go to your admin page and amke a backup ( zip file) , and after finished making backup you can download it to <you hard disk under a good directory.

Every page will be in the directory "Source" (with their page name as file name) and all files ( if requested) in the directoy "files" .

Edit

You have made a home-page , also moved the content in the http://floodescape-totallyofficialwiki.wikidot.com/admin:themes
have a look on your OWN changes/Edits on your profile page: http://www.wikidot.com/user:info/vanwoody789 ( last updates)

Edit2

You can always see the history of changes of a specific page and always "R"everse the version to an old one!

Well, I guess there is just too many traffic and the servers used for the activity panel are constantly working on the edge. I think they tend to lag so hard the whole system crashes repeatedly.

I also think that they would need better servers for the activity panel which cost money. Maybe the activity panel is not just a script but an actual executable that cannot handle the load and also can not run on every server.

Wikidot seems to have grown too fast. I just hope that doesn't mean the death of Wikidot.

by Dr_GromDr_Grom, 15 May 2018 17:25

They should just find someone else to code Wikidot. Will any of us complain about that?

Exactly. It's incredibly frustrating and disappointing and no way to run a business.

by Ed JohnsonEd Johnson, 12 May 2018 13:25

Wait, seriously? That's despicable. Developers, I'm sorry if you're reading this and feel offended, but if you really don't care about it, at least have the decency to hand this torch off to people that do care.
