As shown in this thread on the community forum, there is a lack of clarity over what IP address should be used with custom domains.
It appears from the site manager -> custom domains text that 74.86.234.146 should be used. But as recently as 1 July Michal posted on the community forum at http://community.wikidot.com/forum/t-514273/error-custom-domain-for-wikidot#post-1495585 referring to the change a couple of years ago to 74.86.234.149 and linking to the announcement of this in the blog at http://blog.wikidot.com/blog:ip-address-change.
I have seen no blog post changing it from 149 to 146 and site admins have not, to my knowledge been advised to change the IP address.
So what IP address should be used, 146 or 149? I assume it's 146 but Michal's post a week ago seems to indicate that even he isn't sure, so this needs to be clarified. If both are OK I will be happy cos then I won't have to change all my dns settings at 1&1.
I am sorry about the confusion. I was writing this reply after working late at night and I probably did not check our configuration. After talking to persons responsible it looks like both IPs are supported and Wikidot is configured to handle both.
However, due to migration to another datacenter in a near future we might change the IP addresses to a new ones and after a grace period we would drop old IP addresses. Sites using CNAME records will not require any change.
