They used to work, but for one month or so they ceased to work.
The problems shows up either in Chrome, IE8 and IE7 and it happened to me in two different computers. I have reported about it somewhere some weeks ago, but I think it was not taken seriously. Maybe it's only me that are having this problem? So, first thing to know is if somebody else can reproduce the same issue.
This is becoming annoying, because now that I have more or less finished writing a book in wikidot, it would be very convenient to just select one section for editing some details.
Just in case it is a problem specific of my site, here it is: http://amiii.wikidot.com.
However, I have just tried with a wikidot site of mine for testing and the same issue happened in a page but not in a newly created page.
Everytime it happens I got the following message:
"The ajax request failed. Please check your internet connection or report a bug if the error repeats during your work. code:500"
Best regards,
António
Caetano.
If it's an ajax request, there isn't anything that Wikidot can do, as far as I know. They're usually only temporary too, so the fact that you say it's been happening for a few weeks now is strange.
When I attempt to edit your home page, I get the Error message "There are no isolated sections to edit." That message is usually caused by some code you have in the page.
I had a look at your source code, and the problem is that you're not using any headings (the lines that begin with one or more + symbols)
The only headings on that page have been commented out, and they're for the text that was on the page when you first created the site. To edit sections, you need to add headings to your page.

Probably you were only looking at the start page. I have around 50 pages in that wiki, most of them with sections. See for example http://amiii.wikidot.com/2-1-continuidade-de-funcoes-de-varias-variaveis-parte-2, but you can click on the left pane and get any other to try.
I created this example to prove that there is nothing wrong with the Edit Sections.
Now you need to create a page in the public sandbox that proves there is something wrong with Edit Sections.
@António,
Next time you submit a bug report, please create a test case, otherwise people won't be able to reproduce your big and they will assume you are mistaken somewhere.
I've copied the code of that page to the test case and indeed, Edit sections does produce Ajax errors as you said. We're looking into it…

Dear pieterh,
Many thanks to help me create the test case. I saw mention to it in the instructions but didn't quite understand what to do.
Maybe the following will also help to shed some light about what the problem might be: I have a test site,
http://experiencia.wikidot.com/,
to which I gave edit permissions to any wikidot user. If you try "edit sections" in the start page, it works ok. Also, if you try the same in the subpage
http://experiencia.wikidot.com/teste-2,
which I created just yesterday, it also works ok. However, if you try the page
http://experiencia.wikidot.com/teste,
which I have created several months ago, "edit sections" doesn't work. Even for the last section, which I have created just yesterday (similar behaviour as in the test case, with the last section created by you).
The browser used in this case was Chrome, but it seems this is not the important point here.
We already have a solution to this bug — we will update Wikidot tomorrow to fix it, so that section edits work again.
Thanks for the report!

We have now fix sections editing on Wikidot. Please see if your (so-far-broken) examples work.
Cheers!

I have tested randomly and it works again.
Thanks a lot!
